Crown (Winter I 2016) Game 5 Recap

Crown were happy to see their opponent MG2 were able to field a team on this night as they had forfeited two of their four games so far this season. But while MG2 did have a full lineup for the majority of the game, they did begin down a man so Crown went on the attack to try to establish an early lead as was evidenced by this action pic of Simon and Mark:

The “British Invasion” eventually teamed up to give Crown a 2-0 lead as both Simon and Brian scored. Phil looked to build on the lead but could not convert this sharp-angled attempt:

MG2 managed to cut the lead in half by scoring on one of their few attacking forays but Simon then set up Shawn for his first of the season and Crown took a 3-1 lead into halftime.

Crown jumped out quickly to start the second half as Brian, after some good work along the boards, centered for Jeremy to tap-in. MG2 responded almost immediately to cut the lead to 4-2, then had a period of sustained pressure before Crown took over and put the game out of reach. Phil made it 5-2, then Brian caught the goalie pushing up and made him pay with a long range effort to push the lead to 6-2. Mark added some polish to the win with a pair of goals, one of which was Crown’s second of the game from inside their own half. The final score was 8-2 as Crown pushed their record to 4-1. Also, a kudos to Simon, Eddie and Jeremy for keeping their cool (for the most part) from the barrage of shoulder-checks from the one particularly feisty MG2 player…not sure he was too interested in playing the ball, even when he had it?
