Crown (Winter I 2016) Game 6 Recap

Crown took to the field on Wednesday to take on DW Energy FC for the second time this season, looking to improve upon the 8-1 beating they took last time out. You knew the holiday season was upon us as finding enough players was becoming an issue as the day went on. In the end, regulars Mark (out of town), Eddie (socializing with the Dallas elite), Josh (stuffy nose) and Jeremy (working out 🏋💪) were missing and only Alex was available from all the possible subs so Crown were not fully stocked up, but DW had similar issues so all was fair.

The first half was dominated by DW’s passing and possession game as they looked for the opening goal with Crown happy to sit back and counter attack. Rodney was having a great half in the Crown net but could do nothing about the unmarked man at the back post as DW eventually took the 1-0 lead, but it was only a slim lead at halftime so the door was slightly ajar. Meanwhile, at a gala event somewhere in the DFW area:

Getting some Championship advice we hope…

The second half was more even as Crown started to get chances to tie the game up but could not beat the annoyingly good DW goalie. DW then went up 2-0 as a screened Rodney could again do nothing about a defected goal. But unlike last time these two teams met when Crown folded like a deck chair, there was more fight in them this time around as Phil cut the lead in half with a nice finish on a 2 on 1 break. Alas, the comeback was not meant to be as, despite a few good chances, the tying goal did not come. It didn’t help that Simon and Alex missed the final minutes with bruised family jewels 🚼 and pride respectively. Crown falls 2-1, but a solid effort regardless.

Crown’s next game is against the Little Kickers, next Wednesday at 8:30pm. Let’s all wish Alex the best of luck with his upcoming surgery (it is not on his pride), he will be unable to sub for awhile. I guess all that’s left is this…Simon Says…Merry Christmas!
