The draw for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup was held in Moscow on Friday, and this blog post will give you all those results, plus some ‘Initial Thoughts’ on each group. There was supposed to be a nice section on the US too for my North American based readers but I think we all know by now how that worked out. But don’t let that stop you from tuning in next summer as every big tournament has its fill of interesting sub plots and unforgettable moments, especially with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar playing. It is also a platform for some lesser known players to have their name in the spotlight and catapult them into potential future stardom. Ok, I’ve hyped it enough, let’s get to a full list of the groups for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup:
Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
Initial Thoughts: Uruguay are my choice to top the group, but if Russia can not find a way to advance also in front of their home fans I will be surprised.
Initial Thoughts: This should be a very straightforward group with the two big powers advancing.
Initial Thoughts: France are favorites to top the group and I like Denmark to go through as well.
Initial Thoughts: The Group of Death in my books, Argentina and Croatia going through are my first prediction but upsets could be possible here.
Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Initial Thoughts: Brazil should dominate here with Serbia just nipping out the Swiss for second place.
Korea Republic 🇰🇷
Initial Thoughts: Germany should ease into the knockout stage and I like Mexico to advance also.
Initial Thoughts: I fully expect Belgium and England to be playing for the first and second spots when they meet in their final group match.
Initial Thoughts: This could be the most competitive group of the lot, I am leaning towards Poland and Colombia.
That wraps up the Groups for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, I will be back closer to the tournament with a full in depth look at each Group plus final predictions.
