Fantasy Focus: Midseason Review

With the Fantasy Premier League season reaching the halfway point I like to put all the various fantasy formats I am undertaking into one blog so I can look back at the season’s end to see if I made any improvements during the second half. Let’s kick things off with the big daddy of the fantasy world as we look at the ups and downs of my Official FPL team.

Did I start slow? Yes. Did that lead to me probably using my Wildcard too early? Yes. Have I taken too many hits? Yes. Have I jumped on a few bandwagons? Yes. Have I picked the wrong Captain more often than not? Yes. Ok, will all that negativity out of the way let’s see what I am happy about. I have definitely have done well waiting until later in the Gameweeks to make my transfers which I am sure has saved me some extra points along the way. I have also kept all my other chips in tact which I think is going to be very beneficial when the Blank and Double Gameweeks come knocking on the door. With a very strong GW19 performance of 💯 pts my Overall Rank rose to its highest of the season at 252,440 out of 5,572,909 players. This is how the season has unfolded: read more

Fantasy Focus: Early Lessons

With the Premier League Football season back in full swing we find ourselves back in that frustratingly glorious time of our lives that is Fantasy Football. While the Official FPL game is by far the most popular with well over 4 million entrants, there are various draft games that are emerging as popular choices as add-ons such as Draft Fantasy and Togga. I have had personal success in these formats the last couple of seasons but decided to attempt to take on the beast that is the FPL much more seriously this 2017/18 season. As we approach GW3 I have already learned a couple of lessons that I believe to be very important to early season success while the trends are forming. read more

Draft Fantasy Football – Draft Overview

With the 2017/2018 Premier League season starting this Friday it was time for our annual tradition, the Draft Fantasy Football draft. Our group is on the smaller side with 4 competitors but it is that way due to the fact that we are doing a “Dynasty” or “Keeper” league and knew that this group was committed for the long term. This new feature certainly made for an even more interesting draft as two players will be able to be “kept” for next season so those first few picks were sure to be vital, and not just for this upcoming season. Historically, yours truly has dominated our Premier League pools, including in my personal silverware being the 2015/2016 Global Draft Fantasy Football champion. Last season was a success again as far as Global Ranking as another top 20 was achieved but in a shock upset Nathan also had a huge season and took the title, two guys in the top 20 in the world in one group is pretty impressive I think. A repeat will be tough this season as Draft Fantasy added some new features, like the “Kante Rule” and Bonus Points, all great additions but we chose to stick with our standard rules of previous seasons so will miss out on the possibility to max out on our potential point output. read more

2016/2017 Fantasy Roundup

As the 2016/17 Premier League Fantasy Football came to a close recently I decided it would be interesting to summarize my fantasy exploits in a blog article, at least it would make for a cool keepsake for the future. In the past I had played the Yahoo Fantasy PL game but when it folded up my friends and I searched for a replacement and found Draft Fantasy. 2015/16 turned out to be a great season for me individually as I went on to not only win my group but also finished as the #1 ranked global player which led to some writing opportunities and ultimately the creation of my own website/blog. I also decided to broaden my fantasy horizons, joined in with the FPL Twitter community, and added a few different games to my repertoire this past season. Let’s start the recap with my personal favorite as I attempted to defend the Draft Fantasy crown. read more
