Manchester Utd – Watford Recap

Old Trafford was the site of the final Premier League match of the 2017/18 season for Manchester Utd as they hosted Watford on Sunday. It has been a season of ups and downs for the Red Devils as while a second place finish was guaranteed and a shot at the FA Cup was coming up, there has always been the questions about whether progress has been made and if this is the right mix of players to challenge for the top prizes. The one thing that is for sure is that this is still Manchester Utd and the ability to lure top quality players is a constant so it should be an interesting summer of player movement. But the task at hand was going out and giving Michael Carrick a good send off, and it was also a chance for some players to get some minutes in a game with no other ramifications. Here was the starting eleven for the Red Devils with some big names given a rest: read more

West Ham – Manchester Utd Recap

Manchester Utd traveled to London to take on West Ham on Thursday looking to clinch 2nd place in the Premier League after they failed to do so last game versus Brighton. The organization also had their minds on the health of their legendary manager Alex Ferguson who was hospitalized recently, but currently the news is good as he is in recovery now. Fergie’s teams over the years gave me many memorable moments and my personal thoughts go out to him and his family during this difficult time. And so the Utd squad should not have needed any motivation for this matchup whatsoever, win one for the “boss”. There were some lineup changes made as Lukaku continued to be sidelined, but Alexis returned to give the offense a boost. Here is the starting eleven that Mourinho tasked with getting the job done: read more

Brighton – Manchester Utd Recap

Manchester United took on Brighton on Friday as they looked to cement their 2nd place status in the Premier League. There were some big changes to the starting lineup as José Mourinho would have to do without the services of two big stars, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sánchez, but this gave a big opportunity to impress to their two young attackers Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who have been riding the substitute bench recently. There was also a start for Marouane Fellaini after his game winner on the weekend, plus some action for Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian on defense. Here was the starting eleven for the Red Devils for this Friday feature match: read more

Manchester Utd – Arsenal Recap

It was the final game as Arsenal manager at Old Trafford for Arsene Wenger this past Sunday as his Gunners took on Manchester Utd. And while he would have liked to have gone after this game it was clear that he had one eye on the upcoming second leg of their Europa League matchup versus Athletico Madrid as he named a team with some youth, but there was still some threats as Aubameyang started along with Mkhitaryan returning from injury. And for José Mourinho it was a chance to get one more over on his rival while strengthening their 2nd place position as he named a very strong eleven including Alexis playing against his former team: read more

FA Cup: Manchester Utd – Tottenham Recap

It was a big matchup on Saturday at Wembley Stadium as Manchester Utd and Tottenham collided in the FA Cup Semi-Final. With the Premier League title already in the hands of Man City this was the final opportunity for both teams to give themselves a shot at a piece of silverware this season so full strength lineups were expected. The question for Utd fans was what would Mourinho consider his best eleven based on some of the criticism that has been put on some of his highest paid stars? But any fears of those big names missing out were put to rest as Alexis, Lukaku and Pogba all made the lineup, along with Cup specialist Lingard: read more

Bournemouth – Manchester Utd Recap

After the disappointing loss at home to West Brom, a game which handed the title to Man City, Manchester Utd hit the road for a matchup with Bournemouth. Changes were expected from the fallout of that loss, and players would also be playing for a spot in the upcoming FA Cup Semi-Final. The rumors were that a pair of big money signings in Pogba and Sánchez would be dropped but when the lineup was announced it was actually the Chilean and Lukaku who were on the bench. There were seven changes in total made with only Smalling surviving the cut on defense. Here is that starting lineup with Utd looking to bounce back: read more

Manchester Utd – West Brom Recap

Manchester Utd hosted last placed West Brom on Sunday looking to re-establish their four point lead over their top 4 rivals and delay the Man City coronation a little while longer too. Utd, coming off of an exhilarating comeback victory over their cross town rivals, were naturally big favorites over their almost assuredly relegated counterparts but would have to be wary of a desperate team. Paul Pogba, coming off his recent brace, was once again deployed in a formation that allowed him some more offensive freedom. Here is that starting lineup with Lukaku also looking for a big day against his former club: read more

The Manchester Derby Recap

There were huge title implications on Saturday when Manchester Utd took on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Utd needed to avoid defeat or else they would have to watch their neighbors celebrate winning the Premier League crown right in front of them. The title is inevitably going to City but stretching the coronation as far as possible and strengthening their grasp on 2nd place was of the upmost importance to José Mourinho as he named an eleven that looked like it would give superstar Paul Pogba more license to get forward. Here is a look at that starting lineup tasked with keeping the City juggernaut at bay: read more

Manchester Utd – Swansea Recap

Following what seemed like a long International Break it was finally time for Premier League action to return this past weekend and amongst the matches was Manchester Utd hosting Swansea at Old Trafford. José Mourinho needed a win to stop City from clinching the title and to keep a lead over their other top 4 rivals. When the starting lineup was announced a few eyebrows were raised as Lindelof started in the place of Bailly but the logic from Mourinho was sound as Lindelof’s passing ability was much more likely to be needed to break down Swansea. The rest of the lineup looked as follows with both Pogba and Alexis looking to put some recent criticism of their play behind them: read more

FA Cup: Manchester Utd – Brighton Recap

Manchester Utd hosted Brighton in their Quarter-Final of the FA Cup on Saturday night under the lights at Old Trafford. With the Premier League title all but in the hands of their neighbors, plus the recent elimination from the Champions League this past week, the FA Cup has become the only remaining realistic chance at silverware for José Mourinho’s squad. It was not surprising to see a few changes made after the disappointing effort versus Sevilla as the likes of De Gea, Pogba, Alexis and Rashford were on a talented bench. This gave the opportunity for Romero and Shaw to get some valuable minutes and also for McTominay, Lingard and Martial to potentially re-establish themselves as starters.
